Many late evening Facebook reports talked of numerous police cars in the area and Highway 1 blocked off at Bayard Road in the west and Frenchy’s to the east.

Robert Noble’s farm on the north side of Highway 1 was where police appeared to be concentrating their search. He said his wife was locked in the house and he wasn’t allowed to go home. He said the entire episode took place between about 9 p.m. and 12 midnight.

Noble said his wife Cindy was told by police to lock herself inside the house with the lights off.

Noble himself was in Middleton at the time and a friend approached him and asked what was happening in Wilmot – Highway 1 was blocked off and cop cars were everywhere.  He went home a back way and was stopped by an RCMP member in his own field. The officer told him to leave.

“He didn’t have to tell me twice,” Noble said.

When he was finally allowed home, it was to find the police putting a cursing and swearing man in the back of a cruiser.

RCMP Const. Mark Skinner said a man was apprehended and taken to hospital for assessment. He said no charges are expected.
